SACRAMENTO-

As the downtown plaza turns to rubble to make way for the new Kings arena, concrete is being recycled. Six times a week, trucks drive concrete rubble to the Crete Crush plant in South Sacramento.

Monday FOX40 toured the concrete recycling site. “We’re about halfway done. We have about 30,000 tons that we’ve imported so far,” said Adam Barrows, director of business development for Crete Crush. That pile of rubble is getting transformed into a recycled aggregate.

“We’re reusing something that’s been torn down, the old building, downtown plaza is the organ donor for the Sacramento ESC,” said Barrows. Barrows says the aggregate material will be used as foundation for the new Entertainment and Sports center.

Crews are about halfway through crushing the more than 80,000 tons of concrete that will eventually be trucked into Crete Crush.

The recycled material is expected to be trucked back downtown in the winter to be laid down as the arena’s foundation.

The Kings’ new home is expected to be complete by Fall 2016.
